Why is ISO IEC ?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) are two of the most important and influential organizations in the field of technical standards. Although these organizations are separate entities, they often collaborate and work closely together to ensure the development of international standards that promote interoperability, efficiency, and safety.

ISO is a non-profit international organization that develops and publishes standards for a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, and information technology. The organization is known for its role in creating and maintaining standards for the digital world, including the ISO 9170 standard for XML (eXtensible Markup Language).

IEC, on the other hand, is an international organization that develops and publishes international standards for the electrotechnical industry, including electrical power, lighting, and communications. The organization is responsible for creating and maintaining the IEC 61850 standard, which is a global standard for communication and control in electrical power systems.

The relationship between ISO and IEC is one of collaboration and cooperation. Both organizations have a shared vision of promoting the development of international standards that are essential for the smooth operation of complex systems. In many cases, ISO and IEC work together to develop and maintain standards that are relevant to their respective areas of expertise.

ISO and IEC are both important organizations that play a critical role in the development of technical standards. While they have distinct differences in their areas of focus and their approach to standard development, their collaboration and cooperation are essential for creating and maintaining the high level of interoperability and efficiency that is needed in today's technical world.
